Having Trouble Filling your Prescription?

Virtual Weight Loss has options!

In response to the ongoing nationwide shortage of GLP-1 medications such as Semaglutide and Tirzepatide, we have a new option for patients having trouble finding medications available, and affording them without insurance coverage.

We are working with a nationwide compounding pharmacy that is licensed and able to ship to all states except CA.  Although this is the only compounding pharmacy Bridgeside works with, we, as always, will send your medications to any retail pharmacy you choose (CVS, Walmart, etc).

If this sounds like a good option for you or you have any questions, please reach out to us.

Drug shortages have created a tremendous strain on the ability to provide adequate medical care. National drug shortages worsened during the COVID-19 pandemic, and this was exacerbated by manufacturing plant closures and limitations on transportation. Compounding pharmacies helped meet the pharmaceutical need during this critical time.

This compounding pharmacy partners with  FDA-registered analytical testing lab to ensure the highest quality FDA approved grade pharmaceuticals.

What regulations does this compounding pharmacy follow?

  • They are supervised by licensed pharmacists and pharmacy technicians, as well as their individual state licensing boards of pharmacy

  • They must comply with the FDA regulations outlined in Section 503A in the Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act of 1938 in order to operate

  • Only FDA approved active pharmaceutical ingredients are used in their compounded medications

  • They must comply with all Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) rules and regulations in the use of controlled substances

  • They must follow United States Pharmacopeia (USP) guidelines and standards, which sets the requirements for acceptable chemical purity, quality, and strength of all ingredients used in compounds

If this sounds like a good option for you or you have any questions, please let us know

Whether we saw you last week or haven’t seen you in a year, we hope this new option is helpful for you in your health care & weight management journey.

Weight loss management FAQs

What is the best method for weight management?

The best method for weight management incorporates lifestyle modifications that are sustainable long term. Medication can help manage weight effectively, but only when combined with a healthy diet and exercise. Medical weight loss programs combine these factors with supervision under a board certified physician, to ensure your weight management plan is achievable and sustainable.

How can I lose weight online?

You can lose weight online through a platform providing a comprehensive treatment plan, including guidance from a board certified doctor and health coach. This can be done on our platform, which includes visits with a physician to establish treatment goals, prescription medication as medically necessary, and in app health coaching.

How fast do you lose weight with medical weight loss?

You can expect to lose about 5-10% of your weight over a 6 month time period. You can expect to lose weight at a rate of up to 1-2 pounds per week. This means that if you weighed 200 pounds, you could expect to lose 10-20 pounds, by incorporating doctor-suggested lifestyle changes in addition to medication.

Can I use insurance for weight loss management?

If you have insurance, your weight loss medication prescription may be covered depending on your plan. Our providers can assist with insurance prior authorization requests for your prescription coverage, and they can also direct you to medication savings coupons from manufacturers to assist with the cost of your medication.
It is important to know that not every insurance plan will cover the cost of medications.  Prior to seeing your medical provider, we recommend checking your plan’s benefits to see if weight loss medicine is covered, and if so, for what particular diagnoses. Most branded weight loss medications require prior authorization in order for insurance to cover the cost. Your doctor and care team can reach out to your insurer on your behalf, which can take several business days. If you are denied the prior authorization, you can still purchase the medication at the full cash price.

Are there any FDA-approved medications for weight loss?

There are currently 6 weight-loss drugs currently approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for long-term use:

  • Liraglutide (Saxenda): Also used to manage diabetes, Liraglutide is generally administered via injection. Similar to a natural hormone in your body (incretin), Liraglutide works by controlling your appetite.

  • Bupropion-naltrexone (Contrave): This combination drug is often used to treat alcohol and opioid dependence. It can also be used to help you quit smoking or as an antidepressant. It helps you to lose weight by affecting change in the hypothalamus, which is the part of the brain that controls appetite and your body's metabolic functions. In turn, food cravings are reduced.

  • Orlistat (Xenical, Alli): Orlistat works by blocking your body from absorbing approximately a third of the fat you eat. Doctors often prescribe Orlistat under the name "Xenical" (it's the same drug, just named differently). Alli is available as a non-prescription version at half the dose of Xenical.

  • Phentermine-topiramate (Qsymia): This is a combination of a weight-loss drug (Phentermine) and an anticonvulsant (topiramate). Qsymia works throughout the day to help patients feel full when they eat. It may also change the taste of some foods making them less enjoyable to eat. Phentermine is a control substance and CAN NOT  be prescribed on this platform.

  • Semaglutide (OzempicWegovyRybelsus): Semaglutide is approved for both type 2 diabetes management and weight loss. Semaglutide mimics a hormone called incretin that helps to lower blood sugar and also controls how fast food leaves the stomach. This causes a decrease in appetite and aids in weight loss.

  • Setmelanotide (Imcivree): Setmelanotide activates certain receptors in the brain which cause you to feel less hungry. This means patients consume fewer calories, which results in weight loss.

What are the possible risks and side effects of weight-loss medication?

If a clinician has prescribed the use of a weight-loss medication, it is because they have deemed that the benefits outweigh the potential side effects. Still, it is important to be aware of the possible risks associated with the medication. Side effects will vary depending on the type of medication and the user, but a broad scope of possible side effects includes nausea, vomiting, constipation, diarrhea, stomach pain, headaches, increased heart rate, trouble sleeping, sweating, and more.

As with all prescription medications, you should contact your healthcare provider if you start experiencing symptoms that cannot be otherwise explained.

How Much Does This Cost?

Our consult fee is $49.99.00. The consult fee must be paid to secure your appointment.

Is The Cost Of Medication Included In This Price?

No, you pay for your medication when you pick it up at the pharmacy. The price of medication depends on many factors. You may have insurance coverage or not, co-pays for certain tiers of medication coverage and/or you may have a coupon for a trial period. This part of the process is between you and your pharmacist and insurance company.
